China OEM Boat Trailer Axle Dexter 6 Lug 6000Lb 6K Marine Trailer Axle V Bend Axle 95 Hubface axle for car

Product Description

Galvanized Boat Trailer Dexter Torsion Axle w/ Accu-Lube Hubs 6000lbs 95″ Hubface. Condition is “New”.

This axle is designed specifically for 80″ wide I beam boat trailer frames.

This 6000lb Capacity Galvanized Boat Trailer Torsion Axle from Dexter Axle is galvanized for corrosion resistance, and come with pre-installed with hot-dipped galvanized hubs and are common on many different brands of boat trailers. The “springless” suspension system uses 4 rubber chords surrounding the inner axle shaft to provide shock absorption at the appropriate levels based on the terrain and load spring, and will outlast traditional leaf spring suspension. Torsion Axles are mounted to the frame of boat trailers using U-bolts or bolts and can be affixed to I-Beam Frames, Tubing Frames, and C Channel frames. In most cases this axle would be used on an Aluminum I Beam Frame that previously had a torsion axle, and just needs a replacement.

SELECTING THE PROPER TRAILER AXLE
When selecting an axle for your application remember to consider the following important specifications:

  • LOAD CAPACITY:  the load rating of the axle must support the maximum gross vehicle weight rating. For multiple axle trailers divide the GVWR by the number of axles to determine the minimum load capacity of each axle.

  • TRACK LENGTH:  measure your axle track length by determining the distance between the center of 1 tire to the center of the other tire. A more precise measurement can be made by measuring the distance from 1 ‘HUB FACE’ to the other. The hub face is also known as the mounting surface where the wheel studs are located.

  • SPRING CENTERS:  measure the distance from the center of 1 spring to the center of the other.
NOTE: not required for replacement torsion axles

  • OVERALL LENGTH:  measure the distance from the very end of an axle’s spindle to the very end of the opposite spindle.

  • AXLE STYLE:  important when reusing old mounting hardware and also for proper tire clearance. Includes straight axles (round or square), drop axles with offset spindles, and torsion axles. Also consider spindle size when reusing existing hubs or drums.

  • AXLE CAMBER:  Most trailer axles are designed with a bend in the tube that will deflect when the load (weight of the trailer) is applied. This will theoretically bring the trailer wheel camber toward a 0 value that is the best setting for most trailer applications. This will allow the tires to wear evenly and allow the longest tread life. Camber can be affected by damage to the axle. For example, if the axle spindle is bent, this will usually cause a negative camber on that side which will cause excess tread wear on the inside of that tire.

How can I tell between a torsion axle and leaf spring axle?

If you have spring axle suspension your trailer will have leaf springs. Your suspension should look similar to this:

If you have torsion axle suspension your trailer will look similar to this:

What are the pros and cons of a leaf sprung axles and torsion axles?
Both torsion and suspensions have a record of reliability. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but it comes down to your preference because they both work great in their own way.
Torsion axles are made up of thick rubber cords concealed in the axle’s tubing. As each wheel moves up and down, the rubber cords compress offering an even wheel suspension for a smooth ride. Each wheel acts independently, moving and absorbing shocks.Torsion axles are mounted directly to the frame which means fewer moving parts compared to spring suspensions, resulting in a smoother shock action. This stiffens the frame, reducing flex.
This system is also less likely to corrode because the axle tube is galvanized inside and out. There are no metal-to-metal action like springs, so bare metal isn’t exposed, preventing corrosion. There are fewer working parts in a torsion suspension, therefore less maintenance is required.
The disadvantages of torsion are they are more expensive than spring suspensions and more expensive to repair or replace. There is also no impact distribution, so if you hit a curb, the full impact is on 1 wheel or set of wheels.

Leaf springs have been used for centuries and have proven to be solid performers. This is the most widely used suspension system due to its affordability. Spring suspensions are the most dependable for even tire wear and a steady ride, especially in multi-axle applications. Leaf springs better absorb the load from uneven ground or shock from a pothole. Each tire has its own set of springs. If you have to store your trailer on uneven ground, the independent wheel suspension means the trailer will hold up better over time. Spring suspensions are cheaper and easier to repair compared to torsion suspensions. One con of springs is the metal-on-metal design can lead to faster wear, leading to more frequent repairs. Spring suspensions also tend to be a bouncy ride with an empty load or on uneven, rough roads.

Are there guidelines for choosing the right axle for towing heavy loads?

When it comes to towing heavy loads, selecting the appropriate axle is crucial for ensuring safe and efficient towing performance. While the specific guidelines may vary depending on the vehicle and towing requirements, there are general considerations to keep in mind when choosing the right axle. Here’s a detailed explanation of the guidelines for selecting the right axle for towing heavy loads:

Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR):

One of the primary factors to consider is the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) provided by the vehicle manufacturer. The GAWR specifies the maximum weight that an axle is designed to support safely. It is essential to ensure that the selected axle’s GAWR is sufficient to handle the anticipated weight of the loaded trailer and any additional cargo or passengers in the towing vehicle. Exceeding the GAWR can lead to axle failure, compromised handling, and safety risks.

Towing Capacity:

Check the towing capacity of your vehicle, which represents the maximum weight that the vehicle is rated to tow. The axle’s capacity should align with the towing capacity to ensure safe and efficient towing. Consider the type and size of the trailer you intend to tow, including its loaded weight, tongue weight, and any weight distribution considerations. The axle should be capable of handling the anticipated load without exceeding its capacity.

Matching Axle and Suspension:

The axle and suspension system work together to support the weight of the vehicle and the trailer being towed. It is important to ensure that the axle and suspension are properly matched to provide adequate support and stability. Consider the type of suspension (leaf springs, coil springs, air suspension) and the axle’s design (solid axle, independent suspension) to ensure compatibility and optimal towing performance.

Braking System:

When towing heavy loads, the braking system plays a critical role in maintaining control and safety. Ensure that the axle is equipped with appropriate brakes that can handle the increased load. Consider the type of brakes, such as electric brakes or hydraulic brakes, and their capacity to provide sufficient stopping power for the combined weight of the towing vehicle and trailer.

Weight Distribution:

Proper weight distribution is essential for safe towing. The axle should be selected based on the anticipated weight distribution between the towing vehicle and the trailer. Consider factors like tongue weight and the use of weight distribution hitches or sway control devices to ensure balanced weight distribution and optimal handling characteristics.

Consult Manufacturer Recommendations:

Always refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations, specifications, and guidelines when selecting an axle for towing heavy loads. The manufacturer’s guidelines will provide accurate and vehicle-specific information to help you make the right choice. Consult the owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer directly for any specific towing-related recommendations.

It’s important to note that towing requirements and axle specifications can vary depending on the vehicle make and model, as well as regional regulations. It is advisable to consult with automotive experts, such as mechanics or dealerships, who have expertise in towing and can provide specific recommendations based on your vehicle and towing needs.

Identifying the signs of a worn or failing axle is important for maintaining the safety and functionality of your vehicle. Here are some common signs to look out for and troubleshooting steps you can take to diagnose potential axle issues:

  1. Unusual Noises:
  2. If you hear clunking, clicking, or grinding noises coming from the area around the wheels, it could indicate a problem with the axle. These noises may occur during acceleration, deceleration, or when turning. Troubleshoot by listening carefully to the location and timing of the noises to help pinpoint the affected axle.

  3. Vibrations:
  4. A worn or failing axle can cause vibrations that can be felt through the steering wheel, floorboard, or seat. These vibrations may occur at certain speeds or during specific driving conditions. If you experience unusual vibrations, it’s important to investigate the cause, as it could be related to axle problems.

  5. Uneven Tire Wear:
  6. Inspect your tires for uneven wear patterns. Excessive wear on the inner or outer edges of the tires can be an indication of axle issues. Misaligned or damaged axles can cause the tires to tilt, leading to uneven tire wear. Regularly check your tires for signs of wear and take note of any abnormalities.

  7. Difficulty Steering:
